In the world of the National ATV Motocross Championship and any championship for that matter, a lot of focus and attention is paid to the Pro riders in the media.  The fuel that drives this sport, like any, is the youth and amateurs that aspire to be in the spotlight someday. The ignition for that fuel is passion and most of all fun.  If you don't have that combination you have nothing.  Meet Ohio's Corey Powers.  He is poised to be one of the coming generation's big stars.  Say hello to the 90cc CVT (8-15) and 90cc Automatic Sr. (12-15) AMA ATV Motocross National Champion.

Hey Corey how are you doing and what have you been doing to keep yourself busy?
I've been playing basketball and a lot of playstation 3.

I know that the weather in Ohio has actually been pretty good lately, have you had much chance to ride?
Yes, we went to Earlywine Indoors a couple of times.

Corey Powers flew in out nowhere to be a dominate force in his Youth Classes.
How did you get involved in ATV racing

My dad had quads and just rode for fun. So, my sister and I got two 2003 Suzuki 50's. We just played around in our yard and driveway. We actually got the cops called on us twice because our neighbor was a jerk about us riding them. So he really didn't like me later on. (Chuckles) Then in 2006, I got a 90 Eton for Christmas and raced it later that year. I got second out of five at Fasttraxx in Athens, Ohio. Then we got the DRR and two years later the Apex.

When did you race your first national?

2008/ 90 CVT/ High Point in Mt. Morris, PA.  It was an awesome time. It was a lot to take compared to the locals we raced. I had to qualify and never had to do that before, but I got 13th out of 31 after spinning out while running 11th, so not too bad. It was fun.

Who or what introduced you to the ATV Nationals?
We started racing in 2007 and never heard about the nationals until early 2008. We just heard everyone talking about them at the local track, so we looked into it.

Great job this past season by the way. You seemed nearly untouchable at times. Tell me about last season.
Thank you!! The season started a little rough the first race. I had a few motor issues, but once we got that fixed the quad was good. The season went way better than I could have ever thought. My goal was to finish in the top 5 if the quad held up. I would have never guessed that I could win 14 races. It really felt good.

Powers hit a growth spurt and nearly outgrew the 90cc machine during the season but still couldn't be stopped.
I bet! Congratulations on your championships. So I guess the next question is: What are your plans for the 2012 season?
Thank you again! I am definitely changing classes, but not sure to what yet. So I'm not sure.

What are your goals this year?
Ride hard, always finish the best I can, and have a good time.

That's a great attitude to have. Tell me about school. Where do you go, what grade and do you play any sports?
I go to Berne Union High School in Sugar Grove, Ohio. I am in the 10th grade and I run cross country and play basketball.

Corey Powers found his way to the podium 14 times in 2011.
Who is your favorite rider and why?
John Natalie. He is a good rider and is nice to everyone.

What drives you to race?

I just love riding quads and to compete with the best riders makes me want to do better.

Thanks Corey! It's been great visiting with you. I hope you have a good rest of the off season and good luck next year. We will be watching.
It was an awesome year, no doubt! I have made many new friends from all over. I want to thank mom and dad for letting me race, Justin and Michael at Maximum RPM, Elka, Maxxis, ATV Four Play, Chuck Losey, Doug Voiles, and all of our racing families at the track.
