Any ATV racers story seems to be the same and each with its own personal twists, but no matter when or how someone starts riding an ATV, it infects them like a disease or an addiction. To feed their affliction they push themselves to the limits and beyond. Some even excel and become champions that thirst for more. Meet "The Ohio Crews" Tyler Hamrick who is just such an individual that feeds from competition thrives for challenge. And now Tyler sets his sights on the ultra -competitive Pro-am Class.
ATVMotocross.com: Hey Tyler what are you doing today?
Tyler Hamrick: Hey Rodney Just at work right now, waiting for my weekend to start. (Laughs)
What have you been doing since the season ended?
Well I work for TL Xpress in Mantua, OH but other than that just riding/racing as much as possible. No change since the season ended.
Tell us how you got involved in this whole ATV thing?
My first time riding was on a 3 wheeler my dad built but I don't remember much of that. (Laughs) My first quad was a 350 Honda Rancher, back then I used to hate going trail riding and my dad could never get me to go. It was after I got a 400ex and went to the NEMX Indoor track. Ever since that first time riding a mx track I dropped all my school sports and began racing in 07 and have been hooked ever since.
How did this past season go for you? Did you achieve your goals?
This past season has been my best yet; I won two Championships in the Production A, and College Boy class and 2nd in 450A so I can't complain! This season I just rode hard and smart, and stayed healthy. That's the key.
How was your move up to the Pro-Am class at the end of the season?
It went pretty good I think, I wanted a top 3 finish but those guys up front flat fly so it definitely was a big jump from A class.
What's up for next year?
Hopefully go down to Florida and train all winter, this Ohio weather doesn't really help me much, but the goal is for a Championship in one of the Pro-am classes.
I know with the economy the way it has been sponsorships have been tough to come by, how are things going for you this year? Do you have anyone new on board?
It's good; I still have the support from my parents, which is the only way I can keep going. But as of right now it's going to be the same as last year, but the resumes just got finished and were trying to work something out with some different sponsors so hopefully that works out for me.
So tell me a little about the Ohio Crew. I think it is cool you guys are all banning together like this. How did it all come together?
Well all the names you see on our shirts are from the same local series (CRA) and practice together and Britney Galbalski ended up making t shirts for us. And all of us are proud to represent where were from, we go hard just like the shirts say. (Laughs) I think there's like 7 championships won by our crew this season? So it's pretty cool that people are starting to notice us by the "Ohio Crew."
