The American Suzuki Sunday Creek ATV Nationals roll into Millfield Ohio this weekend. The anticipation is almost over. This being a first time event in Southern Ohio like this seems to be generating a lot of buzz as the independence weekend draws close.
A look at the weather forecast for the weekend shows typical early July forecasts for southern Ohio. There is a chance of some morning showers but nothing to major on Saturday. It looks like the afternoon should be clear for the Pro motos. Regardless over all the weather should be good but it is going to be hot. Be prepared by drinking lots of liquids and don't forget sunscreen, especially for the kiddies.
As I mentioned last week here in Sight Lap several folks have been out doing some foot work trying to get the word out about ATV Motocross at Sunday Creek. Youth riders Cam Covil, Chase Horton and AMA Pro ATV Rookie Travis Moore from the Mushin Racing Team were on hand Wednesday morning at WKOV 96.7 FM studios in Jackson Ohio located about an hour west of race track. They then were interviewed by the radio news and local newspaper about what they do and what is going on. They were not sure what help it could be but really wanted to let people know that ATV MX is coming to town.
There is also a live radio remote scheduled from the track on Friday from 3 till 6 on 96.7 as well to try and get some attention heading into the weekend. Also if you know someone coming on Saturday only there is a chance to $1,000.00 for one lucky race fan. I am not sure what all this will mean for the spectator turnout on Saturday but one thing is for sure, there are a lot of people trying to get the word out.
On a down note; I am sure you have heard or read of the unfortunate accident that Chad Weinen suffered last week practicing. There is some good news though coming out of the "Wide Open" camp. It seems like Chad is attacking his recovery like he is going for the championship. Chad has been able to go for walks and has even walked up stairs. There is also the possibility that he may even be released from the hospital tomorrow which is amazing news.
John Natalie who sits only 10 points out of the top spot may be able to move ahead in the standings this weekend if all goes well. It has been rumored that Natalie suffered an injury to his arm in an attempt to rescue his horses from a burning barn. It was also said that Natalie would be ready to race Saturday though.
It is for sure unfortunate what has happened but at the same time it will most assuredly heat up the battles heading through these final few rounds of the season. If you recall how the class came to life in moto 2 at Steel City when Weinen could not get his bike to fire. We could see this same kind of fevered pitch racing the rest of the season.

I also got this note from Debi Bartosek from 88 Live to Ride Foundation:
Elizabeth Vogt Racing has stepped up and purchased a Traxxis Slash radio controlled truck for 88 Live to Ride to raffle off at Sunday Creek. This raffle will again benefit paralyzed motocross rider #13 Clay Pearson. Everyone's response was awesome at Millville, MN, and in case you didn't hear, we were able to send Clay $3,850. A huge thank-you to the anonymous donor who matched what we raised through the raffle.
Clay is ahead of the curve in his rehab and we need to continue to help him as much as we are able. I have heard that he'd like to come to a race (more than likely Loretta's) and thank everyone personally for their support.
Open your heart and your wallet and support this fundraiser for one of our own. Tickets will be $5 each or 3 tickets for $10. Drawing will be held Saturday afternoon at 5pm.
Thanking you in advance,
Debi Bartosek
