As far as AMA Pro ATV and Pro Am racing it is obviously a long way from over. There are five rounds of racing left and to say who is going to be on top when it is over is a roll of the dice at this point. It looks like it could be the Can Am duo of John Natalie and Chad Weinen but who knows what the rest of the season holds. Joe Byrd finally captured a win and rookies Chase Snapp and Joel Hetrick are showing great promise right now. Nick DeNoble has shown some promise with a recent podium and a couple of hole shots this season and even though a championship may be out of the question for him an opportunity to make his presence known exists in the latter half of the season.
The weather is slated to be absolutely gorgeous this weekend for The Amsoil Spring Creek ATV National and it makes me happy I decided to drive the 14 hours rather than fly. I am tag teaming the drive with ATV MX Series Administrator Dean Van Leeuween and right now we are looking at blue skies and open road. Dean will also be filling in for Smitty this weekend as referee. Smitty is not only an ATV referee but also holds down a normal 9 to 5 job through the week. He and his department is actually being honored this weekend and he will not be able to make the race this weekend. So any questions or issues this weekend will be handled by Dean in this department.
When you head into the facility this weekend be sure and tune your FM radio to 107.9. There you should be able catch all the announcements concerning the weekend. The schedule is expected to be followed as normal however there is a separate track that the 50cc will be racing on so there will be a little change in the main race order and 50cc riders will need to be listening for any announcements pertaining to their schedule.
Mikey Quinn from Spring Creek Motocross also tells me that there is a DJ scheduled for both Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 till 10. This should be a great time for families and friends to get together and do a little bench racing and unwind a little before the season really heats up.
The Spring Creek folks also wanted me to remind you of the Host Hotel and let folks know there are a few rooms available right now. It is the Kahler Grand in Rochester and you can call 800-533-1655 for reservations, mention theSpringCreekevent for discount on rooms.
Sunday morning there will be a non-denominational chapel service that will be conducted at 7:00am on the bleachers. Listen for announcements for the exact location and come support , fellowship and start your day on a good note. Services will be conducted by Seth who is also the DWT/MotoWorks support representative at the races.
There will be a special raffle that will be conducted this weekend to help recently injured rider Clay Pearson. I got this message from Debi Bartosek from the Mobil Medical Unit and 88 Live to Ride Foundation:
"Big Daddy and Xplicit Motorsports along with 88 Live to Ride are hosting a benefit raffle for Clay Pearson at this weekend's race in Minnesota. Up for grabs will be a Traxxas Slash radio control truck! Tickets will be $5.00 each or 3 for $10 - please help pass the word about this benefit. Clay was severely injured during the Schoolboy Jr. race at Steel City. He is still a patient at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh and hopes to soon be released to the Shepherd Center in Georgia for rehab.
Thanks for all and any help in making this benefit a success -
Debi88 Live to Ride, Inc.
88 4Ever"
This is truly a sad thing to hear but hopefully we as a racing community can help make a bad time a little easier.
