Madl Takes the Pro Am Production Overall at Ballance MX
Bowling Green, Ky. (April 4, 2011) - Round three of the AMA ATV Motocross Championship Series presented by DWT took place at Ballance MX in Bowling Green, Ky. over the weekend. Solid temperatures in the 70's made for a beautiful race day but wind gusts up to 40 mph made circulating the track a bit challenging for the amateur riders.
Casey Martin grabbed the holeshot in moto one of the Pro Am Production class aboard his Honda machine and experienced some mechanical problems on lap three, causing him to not finish the race. Mark Madl used that as an opportunity to put his Suzuki out front and the #41 never looked back.
Michigan's Kyle Fix put his KTM behind Madl early in moto one, cruising on for the second place finish. Jeffrey Rastrelli, winner of the ATVRiders.com Fastest Qualifier Award, got tangled up early in the first lap, sending him to the back of the pack right away.
Cole Henry and Ronnie Higgerson battled back and fourth throughout the moto for the third place position and around lap seven Higgerson sealed the deal. Henry then dropped back a position after the #100 of Craig Porter took over the fourth spot. Rastrelli pushed his way through the pack after getting off to a rough start, eventually getting up to fifth where he finished in moto one.In moto two, Rastrelli rocketed his Suzuki out front right away with Cole Henry in a close second. Aaron Meyer, Higgerson and Madl got off to a great start forming the top five for the rest of the race. Madl finally made his move on Higgerson on the last lap to take over the third spot and it wasn't long before he picked off the #11 of Cole Henry to secure second. Madl hammered down his Suzuki to catch up to the leader Rastrelli but ran out of time on the last lap.
Rastrelli went on to take the moto two win after running into some problems earlier in the day. The Florida rider managed to salvage a second overall for the day with a 5-1.Mark Madl took the overall win for the day, putting him in first place in the current point standings. Casey Martin sits seven points behind with two wins under his belt.
Aaron Meyer, Jeff Rastrelli and Ronnie Higgerson only have one point separating the third, fourth and fifth positions, making for an exciting season as these riders must make every race count. The AMA ATV Motocross Championship Series heads to Mechanicsville, MD for the Motoworks Budds Creek event, with Pro class racing starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, supported by 37 amateur classes throughout Saturday and Sunday.
